Department: Apprenticeship

Responsible To: Apprenticeship Manager

Role Summary: To support learners in developing their knowledge and skills to achieve appropriate Functional Skills qualifications. In addition, to support and help. Tutors will deliver teaching, learning and assessment of learner capability against Functional Skills  standards.

Key Responsibilities / Main Tasks

Teaching/Managing a Positive Learner Journey.

  1. Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and learners
  2. Assess learner skills and identify needs and support required, in order to produce an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which is agreed with and understood by the learner. Review learner progress to support achievement of their ILP.
  3. Deliver a high standard of teaching and learning to groups and individual learners.
  4. Motivate and engage learners at different levels using a variety of teaching methods.
  5. Provide individual support to learners where required in accordance with the Apprenticeship programme curriculum.
  6. Set objectives and targets for the achievement of Functional Skills qualifications and positive progression for all learners.
  7. Be able to deliver Functional Skills qualifications from level 1 to level 2
  8. Prepare learners for examinations as appropriate
  9. Comply as appropriate with Awarding Body standards and requirements
  10. Provide appropriate support to learners to ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations with regard to safeguarding, health, safety and well being to ensure they fully understand what is expected of them and what their individual responsibilities are.
  11. Provide ongoing encouragement appropriate support to learner’s and help them achieve their objectives and access opportunities in an environment that values equality and diversity.
  12. Inspire, encourage, empower and promote innovation, ideas and initiative with all learners in line with the company teaching and learning strategy 

Quality

  1. Conduct and document regular reviews of individual progress against ILPs and identify any changes/actions that need to be made to satisfy learner needs and contract compliance.
  2. Deliver teaching and learning to OFSTED standard “good” to “outstanding”.
  3. Obtain feedback from learner’s to assess the impact, enjoyment and motivational factors of their learning programme and identify areas for improvement.
  4. Meet agreed qualification and progression targets to ensure that learning outcomes are achieved.
  5. Involve learners in the design and development of the curriculum offer.
  6. Produce, maintain and update schemes of work and session plans.
  7. Complete all required documentation accurately and within agreed timescales to ensure that contract requirements are met and funding is optimised.
  8. Ensure all exams and qualifications are invigilated, assessed and moderated to required Awarding Body guidelines, standards and criteria and in a timely manner.

Managing Self

  1. Review and identify own professional development needs as part of personal development plan with line manager.
  2. Ensure all agreed objectives and targets are met.
  3. Communicate effectively at all levels and use own initiative.
  4. Empathise with learners and conduct one’s self as a positive role model.
  5. Attend regular monthly Monitoring and Progress meetings with Apprenticeship Manager to update on personal objectives, targets and achievements.
  6. Attend regular Tutor meetings to ensure standardisation of teaching and learning practice, update session plans and Schemes of Work as appropriate and share best practice.

Using Resources

  1. Ensure efficient and effective deployment of resources, including session and resource preparation, evaluation and marking time. Provide contingency cover to ensure curriculum requirements are met.
  2. Disseminate materials relating to best practice and educational research in relation to each area of learning or programme.
  3. Embrace and implement e-learning and use of ICT to the benefit of all learners.
  4. Ensure ICQ e-portfolio is updated for each learner and ensure the data input is accurate and relevant.
  5. Utilise relevant management information to manage caseload, achievement and progression and identify and action any shortfalls in performance.

Experience

Skills and Attributes:
  • Able to plan teaching and learning programmes which improve outcomes for all learner’s
  • A good level of maths and English
  • Effective communicator
  • Thorough understanding of and empathy for learner group
  • Comprehensive understanding of teaching and learning processes (gained through experience or qualification) and ability to evidence achievement of qualifications for learner
  • Knowledge and understanding of QCF/Qualifications/NVQs/SVQs/Apprenticeships.

  • Able to achieve a minimum of grade 2 through observation of teaching and learning
  • Good knowledge of the local area, particularly local labour market, culture, economic climate and relevant agencies.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Thorough understanding of all relevant Gordon Franks Training policies and procedures (health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding, data protection).
  • Understanding and ability to comply with specific contract requirements
  • Understanding of child/young person protection issues and policies
  • Up to date expertise in a relevant vocational field
  • Accredited with the required assessor units. (optional)
  • IT skills (MS Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Email & Internet)
Qualifications
  • PTLLS, CTLLS or equivalent and up-to-date subject specific qualification.
  • Qualifications in maths and English (GCSE A* – C Maths and English or equivalent / Functional Skills Level 2)
